Extractions
Extractions may be performed on comedone and other types of open pimples, cysts or lesions on the skin. Comedone pimples, commonly known as blackheads or whiteheads, occur when hair follicles become clogged with oil and produce small bumps on the skin. They most often appear on the forehead, chin and nose, which is where oil glands on the face are located.
Your provider will perform extractions on the targeted area of the skin to gently unclog the plug and remove any oil, bacteria or debris from the lesion. For certain types of blemishes, a sterile needle may be used to break the skin before removing any debris or buildup from the area. Extractions may be performed with steaming techniques, which help to open the pores of the skin and can lead to more aesthetically-pleasing results.

Obagi Blue Peel
The Obagi Blue Peel is a mid-level detail peel used in combination with the Obagi Nu-Derm Restoration System for clear, smooth, healthy skin. The damaged surface layer of skin is removed, and soon the body replenishes it with a fresh layer that is smoother, well-toned and more even in color, and has smaller pores. The Blue Peel offers benefits over other peel methods because it allows the nurse to control many aspects of the process, including the depth of penetration, so treatments can be tailored to the individual patient. On average two to three peels are required to achieve full skin health.

Skin Medica Vitalize Peel®
Vitalize Peel is a strong but gentle chemical peel used to treat the effects of aging, sun damage and other unwanted skin conditions. Vitalize Peel is the first and only peel that is suitable for all skin types, because it uses a safe combination of alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, resorcinol and retinoic acid. While the alpha-hydroxy acids are very effective in improving the appearance of the skin, they can also cause irritation. However, the combination of other substances leaves skin feeling gentle and fresh.
The results of a Vitalize Peel are visible immediately, but repeated procedures are often used to reach desired results. Treatments last about 20 minutes each and are usually spaced 3-4 weeks apart. Vitalize Peels are performed by our licensed nurses and estheticians.

Acne Scar Treatment
Acne is a common condition that causes blocked pores, pimples, cysts and other lesions on the skin. While it is most common in teenagers, acne can affect people of all ages, most often appearing on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms.
Acne scarring is most often caused by larger acne lesions, such as cysts or nodules, which can swell and rupture, causing a break in the wall of the individual pore. Infected material from the inflamed lesion can spill out through this break and can affect the nearby healthy tissue, leading to the appearance of a scar. Although not harmful, most people are bothered by the unattractive appearance of these scars and seek treatment to remove or significantly reduce their appearance.
Treatment of acne scars depends on the type and severity of scarring, as well as each patient’s individual skin and amount of correction desired. Our licensed nurse will develop a personalized treatment plan for you. For many patients, a combination of treatments may be most effective in improving the appearance of acne scars. Treating acne scars is often a complex process that involves trial and error of treatments.
The most effective way to prevent acne scars from developing is to stop the lesions that lead to scarring. It is also important for patients to avoid picking or popping active lesions, as this can lead to infection and increase the risk of scarring. Picking at scabs should also be avoided to allow uninterrupted natural healing to occur. Sun exposure can lead to further skin damage and may delay healing of scars and lesions, and should be avoided as much as possible to maintain the health of the skin.

Skin Resurfacing with Fraxel®
Fraxel is a unique noninvasive laser therapy designed to dramatically improve skin texture and pigmentation, including the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, surgical scars, and sun damage. Fraxel utilizes fractional resurfacing technology, where only a small fraction of the skin receives the laser light. The treatment delivers a series of microscopic laser spots, while simultaneously preserving areas of unaffected, healthy skin. The healthy cells in the untouched spots promote rapid healing of the entire area, resulting in faster recovery time and minimal side effects.
A Fraxel treatment will typically take approximately 30-60 minutes, depending on treatment area. Though treatment plans are flexible, clinical studies suggest that an effective treatment plan is four to six sessions spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. Each session targets about 12-20% of the skin’s surface, depending on the clinical parameters selected. Results are immediate and progressive, with optimal improvement usually visible in about two to three months and gradual improvement for up to a year.
